Review of Phonak Serenity Choice Comfort at £24.99
03 June 2025
“On my last visit on 6th May you gave me the “ Comfort” earplugs to trial. They are the “KR15” version.
I’ve since used them on several occasions and would report as follows:-
Flying – I’ve used them on two flights. In the past I’ve found the constant engine and background noise on aeroplanes an issue, particularly on takeoff, but also generally. The earplugs helped a lot, toning down the noise but still enabling me to hear announcements (just!). I’ll certainly use them whenever I fly.
Using hedge trimmers and loud electric rotary lawn mower – previously I’ve used spongy earplugs which cut out enough noise to be comfortable and not cause tinnitus issues. The KR15s do not stop enough noise and using the machines was uncomfortable. I also had serious concerns about my tinnitus I would not recommend them for this purpose.
Driving and general day to day noisy environments – they definitely work to improve comfort.
In conclusion, they do what it says on the tin and are great for comfort in noisy environments, and would probably help reduce over loud music to an acceptable level. They are, however, not good for working with noisy machinery. I’ve not tried shooting!
They are easy to use and reasonably comfortable. I have not had any issues with them falling out.
I found the medium size the best fit ( three sizes in the pack, so two are simply unused and a waste?!)
The aluminium carrying tube is brilliant (and probably costs umpteen times more than the actual earplugs!).
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to try them. I’d recommend them but ideally you’d need to buy two versions, the KR15s for general comfort and the KR25s to use with machinery: somewhat pricey at £50?
A better solution would be a pack containing one set of earplugs and two sets of the coloured inserts, both the KR 15s and the 25s.”
Kind regards
Andrew (Bottomley)
